Beginner and Professional Collectors
The hobby of insect collecting has always historically been widespread throughout the world and has been known to be the essential predecessor of the science of entomology. Furthermore, the formerly popular educational hobby of an individual who goes out and buy insect collection to study can be seen in various aspects of European cultural history, folklore, musical songs and even their literature .This common practice is still very popular even in Asian countries such as Japan which is especially more so amongst the younger generation demographic.
After you have purchased an insect collection for sale you will notice that the majority of types of insects have hard exoskeletons that keep their appearance even after the insects themselves have passed away long ago. This makes it extremely easy and practical to form your own bug collection. Since there are many thousands, if not millions, of colourful and unique species known you may find that your own entomology collection may soon become too large to manage properly.
For both beginners and experts alike, who endeavour to buy an insect collection, they realize that collecting different butterfly species is perhaps the most popular with various types of beetles in a close second place.
Insect species are very common in pretty much every corner of the world and can be easily found in all natural indoor and outdoor surrounds simply by taking the time to look closely at plant leaves or flowers, under rocks and boards, in water, and any other place that you can imagine an insect would like to live. During the night hours, many more varieties of species of bugs can be observed or caught flying around bright lights. If you are looking to add to your own entomology collection investing in a butterfly net is quite useful since it allows for capturing flying insects a much easier task. Many suppliers of insect collections for sale also include plenty of insect collecting equipment such as tunnels, malaise and other types of effective traps. Some sellers even include traps that are baited with small bits of sweet attractive foods such as honey. Be wary of aspirators as they suck up insects too small or delicate to handle with fingers.
Once you have collected some insects you will need to use a killing jar which is primarily used to kill insects before they damage themselves in trying to escape. The jar itself is usually charged with ethyl acetate which is very potent concoction used to kill the bugs, but still keep them soft enough to be mounted properly in an entomology collection. Another effective killing agent can be used such as potassium cyanide which gives off cyanide gas, and is very effective, but is not commonly used since it is highly toxic to humans. The advantage of using such a poisonous substance is that it does not evaporate away quickly and doesn’t have to be charged as often. A stronger type of poison also helps to avoid having to squeeze or crush an insect’s thorax since this can disfigure the specimen and make it unusable for your collection.
Local or national museums generally have quite large insect collections, primarily used for research, but some overstocked locations even allow collectors to buy an insect collection from their own inventory. These are not usually on display, since most of them will all look the same to the untrained eye. However, if you are looking for rare insect collections for sale, especially those from faraway parts of the world, you may want to look to more private dealers or collectors such as those found in our store. Some noted bug collections for sale have even been sold at numerous auctions. You never know what kind of treasure you will find amongst the many, many, many sellers out there when you are searching to buy an insect collection.
